The Lighthouse

About the service and what to expect

The Lighthouse is a specialist service for people over the age of 18, living in Brighton and Hove who are experiencing Personality Disorder and Emotional Intensity. The service is provided by Southdown, in partnership with the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Mind in Brighton and Hove.

The aim is to offer individuals long-term support during recovery, an opportunity to develop healthy attachments and relationship skills, to learn effective strategies to manage emotional intensity and to practise community participation and peer support. 

The Lighthouse provides a range of therapeutic interventions, from psychologically informed clinical interventions, therapeutic groups and occupational therapy, to general support and activity groups both at the centre and community-based. 

The service has a strong focus in partnership and co-production with members and volunteers actively involved in the development and delivery of The Lighthouse.   
 

The groups at The Lighthouse offer the opportunity to take part in activities that help people to: 

• Develop a meaningful routine
• Try new things, explore interests and learn new skills
• Socialise with others and develop communication and relationship skills
• Become part of the community of The Lighthouse through peer support and co-production
• Learn ways to manage emotions
• Build self confidence
• Be creative

The service also provides support sessions to work with you to develop an individual care plan, identifying what you would like to focus on and achieve during your time with us. They will meet with you regularly to see how you are getting on and to provide advice and support with your diagnosis and how it impacts all aspects of your life, working at your pace to help archive your goals.

Because The Lighthouse is a community, members are encouraged to attend and be involved in regular community meetings, service development groups and peer support as part of their treatment.

They are open 7 days a week.
 

Am I eligible?

The service supports adults over the age of 18, who live in Brighton and Hove have a diagnosis of Personality Disorder. 
 

Further Information

The Lighthouse do not accept self-referrals or referrals from GPs. Please speak to your mental health worker for further information about the personality disorder pathway within Brighton and Hove.
