Switchboard LGBTQ helpline

About the service and what to expect

Switchboard is for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) people looking for community, support or information. The team connect people and support them directly through specially developed Switchboard services or link them to other specialist organisations.

Switchboard’s in-house services include Domestic Abuse IDVAs, Bereavement Support, Older People’s Group, Dementia Support, TNBI (Transgender, Non-Binary, Inter-sex) Social Prescribing, MRAS (Migrant, Refugee, Asylum-Seeker) Social Prescribing.

Switchboard’s helpline provides a listening ear, support, and information to connect you to the right LGBTQ services or advice.

You can talk confidentially and anonymously about anything that is on your mind. They support people with a range of questions and believe that listening can help, whether you are looking for information and support or just need someone to talk to.

Opening hours

The helpline is open 7pm to 9.30pm on Monday to Thursday.

They are volunteer run and have three listening volunteers on during shifts. If you’re unable to get through, please try again. Alternatively, they operate a live webchat service during helpline hours and offer support via email at all other times.
