Fabrica – Men in Sheds

About the service and what to expect

Fabrica is a visual arts organisation based at Brighton Youth centre in the heart of Brighton, which commission’s contemporary visual art installations specific to the building.

‘Men in Sheds’ is a free community workshop space for adult men in Brighton and Hove, which includes space for woodwork, arts and crafts.

Attendees can get involved in expert-led workshops to grow skills and develop interests. Outings are also arranged by ‘Shedders’ to regional exhibitions, workshops and studios. For more information visit the Men in Sheds blog.

A Men’s Shed is similar to a garden shed – a place to pursue practical interests at leisure, to practice skills and enjoy making and mending. The difference is that garden sheds and their activities are often solitary in nature while Men’s Sheds are the opposite. They are about social connections and friendship building, sharing skills and knowledge, and of course a lot of laughter.

“To be able to come to the shed and work and help others gives me a great deal of satisfaction. I feel a sense of worth and love the way all the men work together.”

Gerry, a Men in Sheds participant
